Triple Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic suffers a 'gut-wrenching' knee injury.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic endured a "heartbreaking" knee injury as the Denver Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 to the Heat.
The star player was hurt towards the end of the second quarter during an accidental contact with teammate Spencer Jones.
His teammate stepped on the footwear of Jokic, and he immediately fell to the court grabbing his knee.
The 30-year-old, who is leading the NBA this season in rebounds and assists, recorded 21 points and eight dimes in the contest prior to suffering the problem.
He will undergo an scan on Tuesday to determine the seriousness of the issue.
"Instantly, Jokic understood there was a problem," commented Denver head coach Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Any player who suffers an injury, that's tough to see, especially somebody as important as him. We'll find out more on Tuesday."
"We'll move on as a team. Of course, currently, I'm more concerned about Jokic as a person and the letdown of facing something of that nature."
