Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before sprint qualifying due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his team ran a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before rotating through the escape zone, and was fortunate to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed corner before the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, over half a second slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
