Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
