Followers Demand Custody of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted supporters of Ariana Grande are demanding that a person who jumped a barrier and touched the actress during the recent Wicked: For Good debut be detained or removed from Singapore.
A circulating video depicts the individual from Australia pushing past photographers and rushing toward Grande while the cast made its way down a promenade surrounded by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being arrested", though court documents indicated that he was due to attend court on the following morning. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
History of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram account features recordings of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney concert in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last December.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is obviously a legal violation," commented an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user questioned.
Fans Voice Worry Over Ariana's Well-being
Many supporters blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her May 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote another message on Instagram.
Some supporters also questioned security officers at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while some requested online networks to ban Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande seemed shocked when she was grabbed by the man. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Many of supporters had assembled in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional debut in a Singapore venue, including a number who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it began.
The film, to be launched on 21 November, is the second of a two-film adaptation of the well-known Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which centers on the surprising bond between two contrasting characters.
The production itself is a derivative of the twentieth-century book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and scored ten Oscar nominations, winning a pair for excellent wardrobe and production design.
